IMCAS Holds Potato High-yield TechConnect Conference

    During 7-10, August 2015, IMCAS held the potato high-yield TechConnect Conference in Yinchuan, Ningxia Province. Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, CAS (CASHIPS) and Ningxia Agricultural Comprehensive Development Office (ACD) jointly organized this conference. More than 30 experts, leaders, and entrepreneurs attended this conference

 

     Prof. ZHONG Naiqin introduced the progress of ACD project undertaken by Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS), especially the potato high-yield technology system and its demonstrations. The technology system updates the traditional technologies and is a new attempt to innovate and integrate the potato industry technology. Prof. FANG Rongxiang believed this was a multi-disciplinary innovative outcome which met the trend of ecological agriculture in our country, and it was worthy of quick industrialization.

 

     This project was funded by CAS, Ning Xia ACD, Heilongjiang Province, Anhui Province, National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc.. IMCAS cooperated with some institutes to develop “seed-fertilizer-pesticide-machine” industry chain of potato and developed virus molecule detection kit, seed dressing agents, fertilizer synergistic agent, foliar fertilizer, pesticide loss control agent, and common scab comprehensive prevention and control measures, intelligent sorters and so on. The team also bred a new disease-resistant precocious line “Zhong Long Shu NO.1”which has past the regional trials in Heilongjiang Province. Through innovative integration, a relatively complete environment-friendly and high-yield technologies system of regional characteristics and worthy of diffusion was achieved. The use of the entire system would reduce pest and disease damage and promote crop yield significantly.

 

     Fourteen demonstration bases have been established in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and other major potato-producing areas in 2014, and total area is over 10,000 acres. Results showed that the system could save 10% amount of fertilizer and pesticide, increase the yield over 15%, and improve the income over RMB 200 yuan per acre.

 

     Another 5 new potato demonstration bases were added in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in 2015. The total areas exceed 35,000 acres. At the same time, the fertilizer synergistic agent was applied to corn, wheat, fruit, vegetables and other crops in an area of more than 60,000 acres in Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Anhui, Gansu and other provinces. In addition, the team also carried out the study of "extraction and purification of solanesol from waste potato leaf".
