Dr. Dorsamy Pillay, Vice-President of Research and Innovation Support and Advancement, National Research Foundation (RISA, NRF) from South Africa visited Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) on September 28, 2010.

Prof. Huang Li, Director-general of IMCAS gave a warm welcome address to Dr. Pillay and then made a brief introduction of IMCAS, including the research areas and scientific achievement in recent years. Dr. Pillay presented the NRF Research Fund against the national priority areas, 2015 strategic plan of NRF and its cooperation with National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He also stated that the government would endeavor to grant the scientific research programs in strategic driven areas rather than demand driven in the next few years. Taking this opportunity, Dr. Pillay got better understanding of IMCAS. He said NRF valued the cooperation with China’s scientific research institutes which would promote academic exchange in natural science.

Both parties agreed to build a communicative network to conduct the international collaboration and strengthen bilateral cooperation in microbiology in the future.
