A 17-member Danish delegation led by Ms. Charlotte Sahl-Madsen, Minister of Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Prof. Jens Oddershede, Chairman of Universities Denmark visited the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS)on April 12th, 2010. Their visiting was aimed at investigating the science environment and research advantages of CAS, as well as the relevant status of Sino-Danish Centre for Education and Research (SDC).
Prof. Li Huang, Executive Deputy Director-General of IMCAS, gave a warm welcome address to all the distinguished guests and then made a brief introduction of IMCAS. The officials from the delegation showed their great interests in the possibility of establishing cooperation with Chinese academy of sciences. After the meeting, the delegation had a guided tour to China-Japan Joint Laboratory on Molecular Immunology and Molecular Microbiology consulting some experience in building joint institutions.
The SDC was initiated by the Graduate University of CAS (GUCAS). It involves the subordinate institutes of CAS, other science institutions of China and all the 8 Danish universities. It will cost about EUR 13 million (DKK 100 million) a year to run the SDC, which will be financed jointly by the CUCAS, the Danish universities and the Danish State. China and Denmark will strengthen mutual exchanges and cooperation at Graduate Education, Innovation and Technology Transfer based on complementary advantages in the fields of nanotechnologies, reproducible resources, environment, bio-science and welfare. The SDC will be expected to be ready for use by 2013. It is believed that the SDC will attract young scientists and enterprises from both countries.
Taking this opportunity, Danish delegation got better understanding of IMCAS, which would promote future bilateral co-operation.
