Embassy of Japan in China held Japanese Foreign Minister's Award Ceremony on January 20, 2016. Academician George Fu Gao at the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences was honored this award. 

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan awarded academician Gao for his long term cooperation with the University of Tokyo, and expressed appreciation for his contribution in Sino-Japan cooperation in science and technology.

Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups of outstanding achievements in international fields to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries.

This year, 116 individuals (22 from Japan) and 39 groups (10 from Japan) received this honor from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
