A delegation of the Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo (IMSUT), led by its director Prof. Yoshinori Murakami, visited the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) on April 30.
Prof. LIU Shuangjiang, director-general of IMCAS, welcomed Prof. Murakami and his delegation, and he introduced the three research areas and five laboratories of IMCAS. Prof. LIU Wenjun, deputy director of CAS Key Laboratory of Pathogenic Microbiology & Immunology, reviewed past Sino-Japanese cooperation on HIV, hepatitis, avian influenza, and other newly emerging infectious diseases.
In his talk, Prof. Murakami reviewed the history of IMSUT and introduced its basic research departments and research centers. He proposed Sino-Japan cooperation on topics such as flu, dengue, and drug-resistant strain, together with framework suggestions.
Prof. DONG Xiuzhu, vice director-general of IMCAS, suggested further investigations on common interests of the two institutes, and she hoped that strong and bilateral cooperation could be established, with more effective mechanism and more open platform.
Prof. MA Juncai, director of information center, introduced program of Global Catalogue of Microorganisms. This program, initiated by World Data Center of Microorganisms, received wide supports and positive responses from international culture collections.
This is Prof. Murakami’s first visit to IMCAS, after he was nominated as the new dean of IMSUT.
