Ten renowned experts from US, UK and Germany attended the panel review of the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) from Dec. 8 to 10. They assessed the “One-Three-Five” Strategic Planning of IMCAS.
During the on-site assessment, the expert panel, led by Prof. Xiao-Fan WANG, Duke University, and Prof. Rudolf Kurt THAUER, Max Planck Institute of Terrestrial Microbiology, learnt the overall introduction of IMCAS delivered by Prof. LIU Shuangjiang, director-general of IMCAS.
Prof. DONG Xiuzhu and some representative principal investigators reported the major breakthroughs and top priorities of research. The expert panel also listened to reports by young scientists in the area of microbial resource, microbial biotechnology and pathogenic microbiology and immunology.
They visited Information Network Center, Department of Core Facility, Culture Collection Center, Mycological Herbarium, Laboratories, Experimental Base of Technology Transfer Center and had discussion with IMCAS researchers and graduates on the following day.
After two days’ assessment, the expert panel concluded the assessment and commented on three major breakthroughs and five top priorities of the institute. Meanwhile, they gave suggestions on the training of young scientists.
ZHANG Yaping, vice-president of CAS, thanked the hard work of the experts and expected the assessment report would help the development of IMCAS.
