The fifth annual meeting of Key Laboratory of Pathogenic Microbiology & Immunology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASPMI) was held on November 9-11, 2013 in Beijing.

Prof. GAO Fu (George Fu Gao), director of CASPMI, summarized the research progress of this year. He recalled the history of CASPMI and stated the close cooperation among each research unit of CASIM. Then he pointed out the CASPMI would continue to focus on the research of interactions between host and pathogens, specified in the area of interspecies transmission of viral pathogens, recognition and regulation of cell immunity, and anti-infection drug development.

CASPMI showed quick response to the newly emerging infections this year such as H7N9 influenza virus and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

Researchers in the laboratory organized and led research groups from China CDC and other institutes of CAS to fight against viral infections and made a great scientific breakthrough. Their research work was published in highly respected journals such as The Lancet，Science，Nature，Nature Communications，Cell Research, and so on.

The awards ceremony for Zhou Jiachi Virology Scholarship, Leadman Excellent Graduate Awards and Scientific Awards was also held in the meeting.
