On September 18, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended activities of this year’s National Science Popularization Day in Olympic Games Village Hi-tech Park, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The theme of this year’s activities is “saving energy and resources, protecting ecological environment and ensuring safety and health”. He urged the whole society to continue energy-serving and emission-reduction campaign.

During the activities, Xi also paid a visit to Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and heard the introduction of microbial culture collection, nisin, production of long-chain dicarboxylic acids by biological treatment and the achievement in environmental protection.

Xi said scientific research and popularization were indispensable and urged scientists to promote the development of science as well as its popularization.
