LU Yongxiang, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences, accompanied by Director-general DENG and Vice Director-general PAN visited Institute of Microbiology on July 13, 2010. They visited State Key Laboratory of Microbial Resources, CAS Key Laboratory of Systematic Mycology and Lichenology, CAS Key Laboratory of Pathogenic Microbiology & Immunology, Department of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechology and Microbial Culture Collection.

During the visit, President LU had talks with academicians and senior researchers. He said that Microbiology is one of fundamental disciplines for life sciences, which plays an important role in reproducible resources, environment, human health, industrial biotechnology, agriculture and ecology, etc. He stressed that microbiology research is crucial for China’s economic development, people's lives and health, social security and welfare. IMCAS needs to strengthen the exploitation and application of microbial resources as well as technology transfer. He also confirmed that IMCAS had made great progress in the past fifty years and hoped that IMCAS would continue to contribute to scientific innovation and become a world- renowned institute in the next  ten years.
