Title: Modeling and simulation of biofilm dynamics using complex fluid models

Presenter: Dr. Qi Wang,Professor

University: Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina

Time: 10:00-11:30, July 16, 2013

Venue: Room A203, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Abstract: In this talk, Dr. Wang will discuss a paradigm to derive mathematical models for biofilms systematically, focusing on biofilm and host matrix interaction. He will discuss models for multiple bacterial types, EPS, antimicrobial agents and their interaction in a complex biofim fluid flow environment. Cell-cell communication leading to quorum sensing, cell motility will be discussed as well should time permits. Benchmarking of the model for multispecies bacterial biofilms in dental diseases will be demonstrated to show the validity of the model.
