IMCAS Hosted Fourth National Microbiology Forum for Postgraduate and Postdoctoral

The Fourth National Microbiology of Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Forum was held at the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) which was sponsored by the Institute of Microbiology, and undertaken by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences from November 5 to 7, 2015. More than 200 postdoctoral and postgraduates from 25 research institutions in China participated in the academic forum.

The theme of this academic forum was “Microbiology, a Falling Leave can Tell Autumn’s Arrival”. It aims at building an academic exchange platform for young students of microbiology and relevant fields, strengthening academic ties among postgraduates, and promoting the cultivation of microbiology talents.

The academic forum combined with “Boguan Forum”, particularly invited the renowned scientist, Academician LI Jiayang, who delivered a speech How to be a Professional Scientific Researcher. In his speech, he shared his personal experiences, elaborated the feature of scientific research, pointed out eight basic elements of being an excellent scientific researcher, and how to be a qualified supervisor, a preeminent postgraduate and postdoctoral.

Last but not least, Academician LI quoted a Chinese saying “Achievements are reached by hard work rather than reaction. Actions are done after thorough consideration rather than casual decision” to all the teachers and students. He encouraged postgraduates to endeavor to climb the heights of Science through unremitting efforts. 

In the following award ceremony, LI Junxiong, Deputy Director of IMCAS hosted the 2015 annual award ceremony of IMCAS Novozymes' Scholarship. Ten graduateswon the prizes. LI and Dr. WU Wenping, R&D Director of Novozymes (China) Investment Co. Ltd. issued the honor certificates to the winners.

On the afternoon, over 200 postgraduates respectively delivered postgraduate academic report in three branch venues, including “Postdoctoral Forum”, “Microbiology Frontier Progress Forum”, and “Astronomy - Geography - Biological Cross Forum”. The forum invited 24 excellent postgraduates to deliver academic reports, which encircled the hot issues of the present microbiology research and other fields combined with their recent research achievements.
