Academician George Fu Gao Honored 2015 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award

The 2015 award ceremony of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation (HLHL) was grandly held in Beijing Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on November 4th. Academician George Fu Gao from the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded the Science and Technology Progress Award.

 

Prof. Gao has been focusing on cross-host communication mechanism of pathogenic microorganisms and immunity, public health policy and global health strategy research for a long time. Particularly, he made a systematic and innovative research not only on interaction between viral envelope proteins and host through virus invasion and release process, but also the mutual recognition mechanism of immune cells and infected cells. Meanwhile, he published more than 330 papers on international journals of SCI (Including Nature, Science, Lancet, NEJM, Nat Med, NSMB, PNAS, PLoS Pathogens, Immunity and so on).

 

For Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award of this year, a total of 47 science and technology workers are awarded, among whom two received Science and Technology Achievement Award, 31 received Science and Technology Progress Award, and 14 received Science and Technology Innovation Award.

 

Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was established by four patriotic financiers of Hong Kong: Shanheng He, Qiuju Liang, Tian He and Guowei Li in1994, which aims at rewarding outstanding Chinese scientists, promoting China’s progress and innovation of science and technology. In past 21 years, Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation has already conferred 1147 outstanding science and technology workers. Academician Tien Po (1999) and FANG Rongxiang (2005) at the Institute of Microbiology, CAS won the Science and Technology Progress Award, respectively.
