Graduate Students Annual Academic Meeting of CAS Key Laboratory of Systematic Mycology & Lichenology

From June 26 to 28, the annual academic meeting of CAS Key Laboratory of Systematic Mycology & Lichenology was held in Beijing. The subject of the meeting consisted of academic exchange of graduate students, corporation scholarship and IMCAS scholarship, discussion of the 12th Five-year Plan of laboratory. More than 130 laboratory staff, graduate students attended the meeting.

Prof. Yijian YAO, Deputy Director of the laboratory, hosted the meeting. Prof. Li HUANG, Executive Deputy Director-General of IMCAS delivered a speech, saying that “Academic meeting is important for educating graduate students because it provides them with a platform to show their research achievement and helps them become excellent young scholars. Meanwhile, the meeting plays an important role in creative culture building in laboratory. Mycological resources and mycology are the foundation of IMCAS. For many years, the laboratory continues to enhance team building and have outstanding achievement. Now, the laboratory is in its crucial phase of development. I hope it will successfully pass the evaluation in July and become a state key laboratory soon”.

Thirty graduate students reported their research progress and one postdoctoral presented his opening report. The report consisted of the diversity and ecological functions of mycology and lichenology in environmental control, systematic study on main groups DNA of fungi, genetic regulation of filamentous fungi and study on major protein function, bioactive-screening and chemical study of secondary metabolites of fungi, genetic structure and group differentiation of pathogenic fungi, high-screening of biological control strains, etc. 

In this meeting, some excellent students were awarded Givaudan or Novozymes scholarship. At last, Prof.Xingzhong LIU, Director of the laboratory, made a concluding remarks wishing students become international talents in the near future.
