Founded in 1958, the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS, http://www.im.cas.cn) is the largest comprehensive research institution of microbiological science in China, holding “Microbe, High-Tech, and Big Industry” as its development strategy.
The Laboratory of Microbiome and Microecological Technology, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Microbiome Laboratory) is a new research unit officially established in 2023. The Microbiome Laboratory focuses on the following main research interests: 1) Interpretation of the structure and functions of microbiome; 2) Understanding the principles of microbiome construction; 3) Investigating the mechanisms of microbiome-host interaction; 4) Advancing the development and application of microecological techniques.
We are looking for new Principle Investigator (PI) candidates in the following fields: metagenomics, culturomics and phenotype characterization, screening and evaluating functional microbes, interactions between microbes and hosts, and research and development of microecological drugs, etc.
Requirements:
1. Candidates are required to have the doctoral degrees in the relevant fields of the above recruitment areas. Generally, by the year of application (as of January 1st), a leading talent should be aged 45 or under while a young talent should be aged 40 or under.
2. Overseas candidates are required to have worked in well-known overseas research institutions, universities, or R&D departments of large enterprises for at least 3 years after they obtained the doctoral degree. Generally, a leading talent should have the experience as associate professor or equivalent position. Those who are particularly outstanding or urgent need are eligible to apply for this position as assistant professor or equivalent position.
3. Candidates should have significant academic accomplishments with international influence. In addition, candidates are required to have published at least 3 research papers as the first author or corresponding author in top international academic journals or made equivalent academic achievements.
4. Candidates should be proactive and innovative, have rigorous and realistic research spirit, good teamwork spirit, excellent communication skills, etc.
5. Candidates should be healthy and capable of working full-time.
Competitive research fund & salary package:
1. Project funding: we will support successful candidates in their applications for national or CAS talent projects.
2. Research condition: successful candidates will get sufficient research start-up funds, a large experimental and office space with an area of over 200m2, and comprehensive public facilities. A leading talent can be awarded a research start-up fund of 10-13 million RMB and a settling-in allowance of 3-3.5 million RMB, while a young talent 5-10 million RMB start-up fund and 2 million RMB settling-in allowance.
3. Team support: every successful candidate can set up a team and recruit 3-5 research faculties or staff, 2-4 graduate students per year, and a few postdoctoral fellows whose salary along with regular insurance and funds will be partially paid by CAS and IMCAS.
4. Welfare: successful candidates will enjoy a competitive annual salary, and can rent apartments near the institution at a low price. In addition, successful candidates along with their spouses and children can register their permanent residence in Beijing. Besides, the spouse and children will be assisted to obtain work positions and education services respectively.
