The Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) was awarded by CAS for its outstanding contributions on its scientific popularization of anti-epidemic work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, IMCAS has attached great importance to popularizing scientific knowledge and promoting science popularization. The institute has more than 20 popular science articles related to the crown virus, and some articles have been read over one million times. Some have become the Renminhao’s banner stories or appeared on the Baidu homepage.

IMCAS has also organized a number of experts to accept interviews in CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, China News Service, CGTN and other medias. Among them, the four episodes of Vaccine Recognition, Scientific Prevention and Control were permanently collected by China’s National Library.

Experts in related fields at IMCAS have appeared on the State Council Joint Prevention and Control Press Release Meeting. The institute co-produced six episodes of anti-epidemic science open class videos with Toutiao, and cooperated with China Science Expo to conduct live anti-epidemic science broadcast activities.

The institute also used National Science and Technology Week and Public Science Day to broadcast anti-epidemic research and participated in Beijing in 2020 The Capital Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition.

"The scientific popularization and the scientific research are seemed like wings of a bird, or wheels of a vehicle, which are indispensable and cannot be neglected". Various efforts and measures have promoted the public's understanding of science and the anti-epidemic work of IMCAS.
