The China-Brazil Joint Laboratory on Tropical Microbiology was established by Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).
This joint laboratory was created in response to the shared challenges both countries face in combating tropical infectious diseases. Led by academicians from both nations, it draws on the complementary strengths of China and Brazil to tackle these common issues through focused research in three key areas: basic research, vaccine development, and data platform construction. By leveraging each country's unique scientific capabilities and resources, the laboratory seeks to establish a seamless research-to-product pipeline. This initiative is a strategic move for both Brazil and China to strengthen their global public health influence, foster technological innovation, and expand its presence in international markets. Ultimately, it serves as a model of cooperation, embodying the principle of “planning together, building together, and benefiting together”, and contributes to advancing a global health community for all.
