IMCAS Delegation Visits Brazil

On 12 December 2024, a delegation from the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS), visited Brazil to initiate academic exchanges and cooperation, and to jointly explore the broad prospects of China-Brazil research cooperation in the fields of infectious disease prevention and control and agricultural science. The delegation was led by Prof. QIAN Wei and Prof. WANG Qihui, Director and Deputy Director of IMCAS.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in detailed discussions with Brazilian researchers at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences on cutting-edge research, prevention and control strategies, and future cooperation in the field of infectious diseases. Since the establishment of the Infectious Diseases Research and Prevention Center in 2017, scientists from IMCAS and Brazil have continuously enhanced their collaboration in the field of emerging infectious diseases research, which has provided crucial support for responding to global public health crises.

Academic Exchange Between IMCAS and Fiocruz

At the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), the delegation held discussions with Brazilian researchers on a range of topics, including agricultural science and technology innovation, the improvement of crop varieties and sustainable development. The two parties shared the latest research results in the field of agricultural science and technology, exchanged experiences on enhancing agricultural production capacity, guaranteeing food security and promoting green development, and established a foundation for cooperation between the two countries in the field of agricultural research.

This China-Brazil research collaboration represents a significant step forward in the long-term partnership between the two countries. It aims to tackle global challenges through multidisciplinary cooperation and drive new breakthroughs in infectious disease prevention and control, as well as agricultural science and technology. Both China and Brazil scientists have committed to further strengthening their research collaboration in the future.
