On September 22, 2016, Executive Board of Asian Network of Research Resource Centers (ANRRC) announced that the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) will be the holder of the next ANRRC Meeting, and LIU Shuangjiang, director-general of IMCAS will be the new president of the organization.

ANRRC, jointly founded by the research institutions of main culture collections in China, Japan and South Korea as well as other biological resources, is the academic exchange platform, which is the combination of important research centers in Asia. At present, the network includes 104 culture collections from 14 countries.

This center network, founded in 2009, aims to promote the sharing of Asian biological resources and the progress of resources research. IMCAS in China, RIKEN BioResource Center in Japan, and Korea National Research Resource Center in Korea are the three main founders.

The biological genetic resources are the important strategic resources of each country, and ANRRC meeting is a crucial meeting in biological resource in Asia, which has integrated the representatives of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Azerbaijan, Australia, Singapore, Philippines and other Asian countries, to conduct academic exchange and strategic conversation on animals & plants and microbial resource conservation in Asian countries and regions.

The representatives of each country carried out the deep communication about Nagoya Protocol as well as the quality control and standardization.

IMCAS has good reputation for microbial resource research and application, and the biological resources center was founded in 2009. The World Data Centre on Microorganisms was formally hosted at the institute in 2011, which is the first world data center of biological field in China, extremely improving the information management level and data quality of preservation work of microbial resource of IMCAS. In September 2011, IMCAS held the 3rd Asian Research Resource Centers Network Meeting. In 2016, the institute established the Microbial Resource and Big Data Center to further improve the sharing, developing and utilizing of microbial resources.

Representatives including MA Juncai, director of the Microbial Resource and Big Data Center, ZHOU Yuguang, director of the Culture Collection Center, BAI Fengyan, deputy director of State Key Laboratory from IMCAS, as well as ZHANHG Shizhuan, director and CHEN Haitao, program officer from the Division of Asian & African Affairs of Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Sciences attended this meeting.
