IMCAS Displays Innovative Achievements in China’s “Twelfth Five-Year” S & T Innovation Achievements Fair

Representative achievements from the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) were exhibited at China’s “Twelfth Five-Year” Science and Technology Innovation Achievements Fair.

 

They were innovative findings on cross-species transmission of flu virus, evolutional and generic diversity of Ebola, and invasion mechanism of MERS, which were made by Academician George F. Gao’s team; breakthroughs on production technology of the bio-pesticides Avermectin, which were made by Prof. ZHANG Lixin’s team; key advances on quality improvement of transgenic cotton fiber, which were made by Prof. XIA Guixian’s; critical progress in powdery mildew prevention and control base on gene editing technology, which were made by Prof. QIU Jinlong’s team.

 

The fair with the topic “Innovation Driving Development, Science & Technology Leading Future”, opened in Beijing Exhibition Center on June 1, 2016. This significant event was jointly held by eighteen ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Development and Reformulation council, Ministry of Finance, and Department of Military Equipment Development, etc. It aimed to systematically demonstrate China’s critical innovation achievements at world-leading level. On June 3, XI Jinping, president of China, paid a visit to the fair and expressed his high attention and evaluation.
