The Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) and Sino Green Agri-Biotech (Beijing) Co., Ltd. held the signing ceremony of assignment of the patent right on “a purpureocillium lilacinum and its application” invented by research group of Prof. LIU Xingzhong in Beijing on April 6, 2016.

LIU briefly introduced his 30-year’s research experiences on plant pathogen nematode biological control and his main achievements in this field. Prof. WANG Qi, chief scientist of the company briefly introduced the company and expressed that they would strengthen cooperation with IMCAS to push the industrialization of high-tech bio-control products. After the signing ceremony, both parties visited the standard workshop of company.

Meloidogyne spp. costs an economic loss as high as 0.4 billion US dollars to China’s agriculture every year. It’s estimated that about 50% vegetables in preserved areas in China are harmed by Meloidogyne spp.

At present, immoderate usage of large amount of chemical pesticide and chemical fertilizer becomes the key problem for the development of green ecological agriculture. China always devotes itself to driving green controlling of pest and comprehensive treatment, and related departments make several documents in recent years to strictly control the usage of chemicals in plant protection and encourage people to use biological pesticide and fertilizer with high efficiency, low toxicity and low-residue.

So, to upgrade and develop friendly, convenient and efficient bio-pesticide and microbial fertilizer product is an effective approach to control Meloidogyne spp. in vegetable disease.

LIU works on biological control of plant pathogens for a long time. With Meloidogyne spp. as target and using efficient filtering system of biological control established in lab, he made systematical selection and evaluation to approximately 3,000 microbial strains separated from national main vegetable product areas, to achieve a batch of bacterial strain on biological control.

Of which, the ferment thallus of a Purpureocillium lilacinum is an active ingredient, and a new microbial agent - microsphere agent. It can control Meloidogyne spp.; the microsphere agent is non-toxic and with no residue. The application is fast and convenient, and the shelf life under proper storage conditions can be one more year. The average control effect to vegetable Meloidogyne spp. disease at experimental and demonstrational area can reach 60% in pilot areas.

YANG Huaiyi, director of Department of Research Project, XIANG Meichun, associate research fellow from IMCAS, WANG Gengdou, president, Dr. ZHANG Lixia, manager of R&D department from Sino Green Agri-Biotech (Beijing) Co., Ltd., attended the signing ceremony.
