Dr. KEIGO SHIBAYAMA from Japan National Institute of Infectious Diseases visited the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences on December 7, 2015. During which he communicated with Dr. FENG Jie and Dr. MI Kaixia about microbial antibiotic resistance.

Dr. SHIBAYAMA delivered an academic report named National Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance in Japan. His report mainly introduced bacterial resistance of nosocomial infection in Japan and monitoring results of transmission. The results indicated that drug resistance of Escherichia coli in hospital increased year by year, and the main gene type was IMP-1, with plasmid transmitted in different genera.

Dr. FENG and Dr. MI respectively gave a report on Mechanism of Antimicrobial Resistance and Molecular Mechanisms of Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Mycobacteria. In addition, they introduced their research progress on acquired drug-resistance, the intrinsic drug resistance and drug resistance in mycobacterium tuberculosis mechanism of quinolone.

They also had an in-depth exchange of views on related issues and discussed the possibility of cooperation.

Dr. SHIBAYAMA finished his Ph.D. in Medical College of Nagoya University in previous years. Now, he is a researcher in Japan National Institute of Infectious Diseases. He has been focusing on the study of antibiotic resistance of clinical pathogenic bacteria, and published many academic papers internationally.
