Academician George Fu Gao Receives Nikkei Asia Prize

Academician George Fu Gao, Professor and Director of the CAS Key Laboratory of Pathogenic Microbiology and Immunology Institute of Microbiology Chinese Academy of Sciences has been awarded “The 19th Nikkei Asia Prize”, an award created and sponsored by Nikkei Inc., the publisher of Asia’s leading newspaper in the field of business and economy. Academician Gao collected the prize at an award ceremony in Tokyo, Japan on May 21, 2014.

The Nikkei Asia Prizes, which are awarded by Nikkei Incorporated (Nihon Keizai Shimbun Company), honor people in Asia who have made significant contributions to stability, development and the enrichment of people’s lives in Asia  in three categories:“Economic and Business Innovation” “Science, Technology and Environment” and “Culture and Community.” They target individuals and groups in northeastern, southeastern, southern and central Asia, excluding Japan.

Gao is one of the three winners in the category of “Science, Technology and Environment “this year.
