Postdoctoral position– Systematics and biology of plant pathogenic fungi

Two postdoctoral researchers are needed for a newly funded project on the systematics and biology of plant pathogenic fungi. Goal of this research is to systematically study plant pathogenic fungi from a few genera such as Cochliobolus, Colletotrichum, Pestalotiopsis, Phomopsis and Phyllostica using a polyphasic approach.

The postdoc will work on the field sampling, species identification, phylogeny reconstruction and the development of protocols for fast diagnosis of plant pathogens. She or he will be based on Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Other responsibilities include training and supervision of research technicians, postgraduate students and managing of databases. The ideal candidate will possess strong molecular skills and play a role in both the intellectual development of the project along with management of data collection.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in mycology or plant pathology with experience in molecular biology is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Strong laboratory and phylogenetic analysis skills.
  • Experience culturing fungi preferred, but not required

Start date: immediate through 1/Aug/2010
